As some of you may already know, I am soon going to stop being a couch potato and head off for charity 480km into the Arctic circle with a bunch of huskies (shame, not mine unfortunately) and a few other humans, on a true life challenge, a week's long Arctic expedition in the far north of Norway where I will have to cross approx. 250 km of snowy wilderness on a sled being pulled by a team of faithful snow dogs. Having never been in the Arctic circle or on a dog sled before, I've been crazy enough to agree to cover between 30km to 60km per day in temperatures reaching as low as -35 degrees centigrade, whilst spending nights in a sleeping bag and sustaining myself on nothing more exciting than bowls of porridge and freeze dried food, carrying all our gear to sustain life as we go!

And I am doing all this in order to raise much needed funds for the charity dear to my heart, Battersea Dogs & Cats Home, Britain's most famous home for lost and abandoned dogs and cats.

Thousands of lost or unwanted dogs and cats come through Battersea's doors every year, especially after Christmas, many with a heartbreaking story and in desperate need of shelter and each and every one is given as much love, care and attention as possible. With warm dry kennels, food to eat and the very best of vet care, the lost and abandoned dogs and cats await the possibility of a new home.

Battersea Dogs & Cats Home does not receive any governmental grants and relies solely on donations from the public.

£ 5 will help keep one dog warm by heating his kennel for a month

£10 will help feed one hungry dog and one hungry cat for a month

£10 will make a sick dog and a sick cat better by providing antibiotics for a month

£25 will feed over 50 dogs for one day
