InterAct Reading Service is dedicated to supporting stroke recovery. The charity uses professional actors to provide a live reading service for stroke patients in hospitals and stroke clubs. The readings are designed to speed recovery by improving mood and stimulating the brain.

Story

Hello, thanks for looking at my page.

My Grandad Kennett was diagnosed with cancer a couple of years back. He fought it bravely but passed away in June. He spent his last days in a hospice in West London, where I first became aware of a team of people from a charity called Interact.

They are made of teams of people who visit hospitals and sit with a patient, talking, reading and listening, the length of time spent on any one individual depending on the patient's wishes. They make every effort to provide reading material that will stimulate patients from every walk of life and that will suit their present level of comprehension.

Grandad had lots of visitors, but others in the hospice had very few or even none, and the time these people spent at their bedsides must have been a real comfort and benefit to them.

The charity also provides group readings, both in hospitals and at the various stroke clubs they work in. The important thing for InterAct is to treat each patient as an individual.

I've been getting into jogging after our 3rd baby Larry came long, really just to get back in shape and keep fit. After a while I realised I could complete more laps of the park than I ever thought possible, so my next challenge was a half marathon! I know it's going to hurt but I've been training hard, and want to use the pain to do something worthwhile for a good cause.

When I decided to do the run for charity, it was tempting to raise money for the mainstream charities; but after witnessing the work Interact do first hand, I felt led to support them; and I hope you will back me and them in giving generously!

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

Please give whatever you can, I'll keep you posted on how training continues to go, and build up (and aftermath) of my half marathon!

Thanks for reading,

Love,
