One in 4 of us will be affected by depression, anxiety or mental illness at some point in our lives.
The problem with this kind of illness is that it can not be seen, as a broken arm or a rash on the skin can, and therefore it is hugley misunderstood and stigmatised in society. needlessly.
8 months ago I suffered a nervous breakdown resulting in a high level of depression and aniexty, it was very real and very scary. Like being at the bottom of a big dark black hole and seeing no possible way out which leaves you in despair.
I was lucky enough to have great friends and great family to support me and help me onto this road to recovery, but not everyone has that, and that can make life seem even more like it's not worth living.
Charities like SANE are committed to helping people with these conditions as well as their families, carers and health professionals and can be a lifeline if there is no where else to go.
I especially like this charity because they award Arts grants to encourage people coping with serious mental illness to explore their creative ability as a tool for recovery.
On the 20th march myself and my best friend Jen will be running the hastings half marathon in order to raise money for this wonderful charity that could help turn someones life around.
Running the Marathon has specific importance for me because when I was at my lowest I could barely move, so I ask you kindly to dig deep and donate for this wonderful and overlooked cause.
Even £1 will make a difference.
