VSO is an international development organisation that brings people together to share skills, build capabilities, and change lives to make the world a fairer place for all. Everyday, VSO volunteers are working to empower people living in some of the world’s most marginalised communities.

Story

A big thanks for visiting my fundraising page!! I have been selected to volunteer in Nepal with VSO through International Citizen Service (exciting times!) VSO ICS works in some of the  poorest communities around the world, with projects focused on education, health, the environment, women's rights, empowering youth and helping communities access a sustainable income. It also helps young people in the UK (me) become active citizens in the world who are passionate about long term global development!

My first challenge is to raise £800 for VSO and other ICS partners. This does NOT I repeat NOT go towards my personal placement (eg flights visas etc) as ICS funds the opportunity for young people to change their lives and the lives of others. The donations however DO fund the overall cost of all VSO and ICS projects around the world, so your money could go towards helping Rohinga Refugees in Bangladesh, ensuring that marginalised and disabled children get access to education in Kenya or helping Ghanaian cocoa farmers increase their profits and access a sustainable source of income. You can see what projects VSO run by having a cheeky peek at their website here - https://www.vsointernational.org !!

My project is based in the Lamjung region of Nepal, with the focus of Education. I will be working on the 'Sisters for Sisters' project which empowers young girls to access education in spite of the discrimination and social norms (such as early child marriage) that keep young Nepalese girls out of education. The big 'sister' will take a mentoring and leadership role which then boosts the confidence of the 'little sister' and encourages her to take an active role in school. I will also be working on raising awareness of sexual and reproductive rights, providing employability skills, organising extracurricular activities to boost leadership skills and many more....

As anyone who knows me will know that I am extremely passionate about anything to do with women's rights and therefore I am so excited to be on this project as well as getting first hand experience with everyday Nepalese life (I will be living with a host family with my pair volunteer from Nepal for 3 months!!)

Therefore I will be organising events in the upcoming months to meet my fundraising target before I go (1st of June) and would like to thank everyone in advance for their support! I will be updating this page accordingly and keep an eye out for any upcoming events, any contribution made will make a real difference to the lives of people in developing countries.

Thank you so much, Juliette xo
