Story
Most of you know me as a geeky Polish translator. Some know that I have lived in Indonesia. A few know that I run 15 km during my lunch break. A couple may know that my husband is originally from Borneo. Now, it's time to put all these things together and, with your help, do something awesome for a very VERY SPECIAL SPECIES.
DID YOU KNOW that the word orangutan in Indonesian means 'man of the forest'? Well, after all, orangutans are one of our closest relatives ans share 96.4% of our DNA. Just like us, they have the ability to reason and to think and possess very similar senses to our own.
Sadly, the Bornean orangutan is in danger of extinction due to irresponsible human activiries. In the past 60 years its population has declined by 50%, with just over 60 thousand animals now remaning in the wild. If we don't do anything about it, in 10 years they'll be gone! THEY NEED OUR HELP.
I'm running the Brighton Marathon 2013 for this immensely important cause which is very dear to my heart. So please sponsor me to raise money for my chosen charity. All your donations will directly go to Orangutan Appeal UK.
Every £2 can buy Vitamins for one orphaned/injured/ex-captive orangutan at Sepilok Rehabilitation Centre in Borneo for ONE WEEK.
Every £5 can buy ONE week's supply of milk for two baby orphaned/injured/ex-captive orangutan’s at Sepilok Rehabilitation Centre in Borneo.
Every £10 can buy ONE month's supply of bananas for an orphaned/injured/ex-captive orangutan at Sepilok Rehabilitation Centre in Borneo.
Every £15 can buy vitamins for EIGHT orphaned/injured/ex-captive orangutans at Sepilok Rehabilitation Centre in Borneo for ONE WEEK.
Every £20 can buy ONE month's supply of food including sugarcane, long bean, sweet potato, guava and watermelon for an orphaned/injured/ex-captive orangutan at Sepilok Rehabilitation Centre in Borneo.
Every £100 can pay for a Malaysian Veterinary Nurse for around 2 weeks to care for the young baby orphaned/injured/ex-captive orangutans at Sepilok Rehabilitation Centre in Borneo. The sponsorship of staff is vital for the centre as the Sabah Wildlife Department resources are unable to cover the cost of providing a full time on-site Malaysian Veterinary Staff Nurse.
