We are doing the Cycle Cuba challenge in March 2009, which will involve us cycling 370km through the Caribbean island of Cuba in support of the charity Women for Women.

Women for Women specialises in research affecting women and their babies. They will work to improve prevention, diagnosis and treatment of a range of conditions including genetic diseases, miscarriage, stillbirth, pre-eclampsia, infertility, cancer and brain damage. These conditions will affect most of us in some way during our lifetimes whether it be ourselves, our families or our friends.

Since we are both doctors working in Obstetrics & Gynaecology, we see the effects of such conditions on a daily basis and feel that any contribution we can make towards an improved knowledge in this field is so worthwhile.

We have just completed a training weekend in the Cotswolds which has made our task seem all the more real. We cycled a total of 80 miles over two days and conquered some pretty steep hills! After the first 5 miles and the biggest hill of the weekend we were highly traumatised and the thought of another 75 miles seemed almost impossible. We did it though and in style we would like to think!!!
