Story
Hi, i'm Kate, 36 next month and currently on my 3rd diagnosis of myxoid liposarcoma cancer. Yeah I had trouble pronouncing it at first. You can read more here http://sarcomahelp.org/liposarcoma.html
OK, so its start of round 2 of fundraising for me. I have raised over £650 for RJAH in my last drive so far. This time to mark my chemo treatment due to start approx August 15th 2013 for 6 cycles, 3 wks each, I am proud to raise for Hospice of the Good Shepherd, HOTGS. They have supported me since my return from Australia in 2009. Providing counselling, complimentry therapies and emotional support to Saffron my civil partner and I. For further info please visit http://www.hospiceofthegoodshepherd.com/
I have been supported by many nice individuals who I now consider friends, along with health professionals worldwide. I thought that since its my 3rd diagnosis and I haven't done much personally to fundraise myself since being so closely involved with cancer, then now maybe a good time. Plus its another excuse to highlight the disease and its effects, not just for me as a patient, but also family, friends and loved ones. Each have their own personal journey.
One thing that my diagnosis on each occasion have shown me, is that it really does show who your friends and family are. Some people shy away, others make it about themselves and so forth.
Thats why one of my agendas is simply - IF YOUR FAMILY OR A TRUE FRIEND - PLEASE MAKE THAT DONATION!
Its all well and good sending messages of condolence, well wishes and thought which are great. But wouldnt it be great to truly help me to help others by supporting them through this horrible disease too?
Its also a chance to do a few silly things from my wish list that I may not do if given the chance again, and I can raise funds for a great cause in the process.
Whilst this page is for donations I want to establish a few things:
1. I will post what challenges* I will be undertaking to donate specifically for
2. There will also be events* such as cake sales, book sales etc too.
3. There maybe individual drives to donate such as my 36th Birthday and xmas to boost
4. Donations can be made regardless of whether an event or challenge is taking place
5. Donations can be name or anonymous
6. Please remember to add Gift Aid
*challenges and or events will be within my physical capability but due to treatment maybe cancelled at short notice.
**offers to help with challenges or events, or join me in them are welcome
***suggestions of challenges also welcome, although may not be possible due to medical advice
Lastly, I will also be writing a daily diary blog of treatment, which I will post to as often as possible to keep you all up to date. http://katescancerjourney.wordpress.com/
Finally, thanks for all your support, advice and above all donations.
Kate
