We’re Breast Cancer Now, the charity that’s steered by world-class research and powered by life-changing care. We’re here for anyone affected by breast cancer, the whole way through, providing support for today and hope for the future. By 2050, we believe everyone diagnosed with breast cancer will live – and be supported to live well. But we need to act now.

Story

Dear one and all!

We write this with a touch of reticence, as neither of us feels comfortable asking you for a donation to our cause.  That said, there is nothing we actually want to do more right now than raise both awareness and funds for Breast Cancer Research, and so we urge you please to read on.

As our close friends will be aware, Jane received the sobering news in January that she had Breast Cancer.  Suffice to say this is a miserable time for her, her friends and her family.  The true sadness is that like so many cancer cases, there was no rhyme or reason why it should be her and the indiscriminate nature of the disease is at best hideous.  The real shock behind this truth is that Breast Cancer affects an unbelievable number of people, directly or otherwise.  50,000 people are diagnosed each year in the UK alone – 1 every 10 minutes.

The developments in medicine, knowledge and ultimately the likelihood of success in defeating cancer are left largely down to fundraising and charity donations.  We are not so much asking for support for Jane, as that is our role.  We are instead asking for support for everybody affected by this cancer – people are suffering and there is still so much that can be done.

If it does help to make it more personal, know that Jane’s wind has indeed been stolen from her sail, that she is struggling, but her positivity and fight that we all love her for is still there.  Having been put in this pretty desperate place, we think she would be most grateful of all if you were to help others like her.  That is the selfless champion that she is.

Kath and I will be doing our part.  We have set this page up to support Kath’s Geneva marathon next weekend (6 May) and my Fred Whitton Challenge cycle ride in the Lake District (13 May).  Kath has managed almost no training and is aiming to hit the wall at around the 25km point and then endure the final 17km until the finish.  I have put in a few more miles, but will certainly hurt for a large part of the 180km and 4000m climbing before I cross the line.  Our suffering will be worth it and is after all only temporary.

Thank you firstly for reading our page, and secondly a huge thank you too if you decided to donate.  We are aware there may already be causes close to your hearts that you support.  Please feel free to send this link to your network we cannot reach.  This is a big cause in which sadly Jane is merely a drop in the ocean.

Thank you again,

Gus and Kath.
