We‘re the world‘s leading cancer charity dedicated to saving and improving lives through research. We fund research into the prevention, detection and treatment of more than 200 types of cancer through the work of over 4,000 scientists, doctors and nurses.

Story

This is my 4th year running in the amazing events of Race for Life, in aid of Cancer Research UK. This year I will be running 3 races - a 10K run and 5K obstacle in Sefton Park (Liverpool) and a 5K run in Chester. This is my sponsorship page, any donations you could spare I would be very grateful.

I have been running every year in memory of my Grandma, Mary Thomson, whom lost her fight in 2007 to a rare but increasingly more common cancer called Mesothelioma, in her case triggered by asbestos exposure.

She was incredibly brave woman until the end, but it was an end that no one should have to experience.

I was lucky enough to have met Mary, to have grown up with her. However, when my mother and her sister were only children, they lost their father, Brian Huntington, to throat cancer in 1977.

Our awareness of carcinogens and their risks with cancer are becoming better. However many are still not fully aware, many still recieve the diagnosis they never thought they would hear.

All of us have been or know someone close whom has been affected by cancer. It is unforgiving of age, race, gender and in some cases even whether or not you have a healthy lifestyle. The research carried out by CRUK is incredible work, with the wonderful donations giving by the public and raised through events cancer survival rate has doubled in the last 40 year - 450 people survive cancer every day thanks to that research.

Everything from test equipment, to staff and clinical trials is supported by your donations, therefore I would ask if you can spare even just a quid or attend the fundraising events that myself or CRUK will put on this month, you would be helping in that fight against cancer...and for that I am eternally grateful.

Keep an eye out for fundraising events both at my home and OpTIC over the next few months. All 3 races are in July and if you are able to come to witness the incredible comradeship of fighting, their families and friends, you would be more than welcome :)

The races:

Saturday 4th July - 5K Pretty Muddy Obstacle race, Sefton Park (Liverpool)

Sunday 5th July - 10K run, Sefton Park (Liverpool)

Sunday 26th July - 5K run, Chester

If you would like the name of a loved one to be on the back of my running shirt, please just let me know. There are a few names there already.

The chances of surviving cancer, of early diagnosis and of prevention through awareness are becoming better every day..but we still need your help. Let's stick together and beat cancer sooner.
