Story
Bourne House at King's College School has voted that the Janki Saye foundation will become our house charity. The founder of the charity led an assembly about how the Janki Saye provides assistive technology for those who cannot afford it. Assistive technology is technology of software that is designed to help people with disabilities, such as an iPad app that allows the user to select symbols that narrate a message. Other examples of this include Eye Gaze and OrCam My Eye. Eye Gaze was designed for people with severe disabilities; moving your eyes around the screen moves the cursor. To click, you can blink or stare. OrCam My Eye is a technology that allows people unable to read to read, by scanning for text and narrating it, all in the form factor of a standard pair of glasses.
The price of these technologies is as follows:
Go Talk Now app for iPad £74
Prologuo2Go app for iPad £200
Orcam MyEye £1,800
EyeGaze solutions range from £2,500 to £8,000 as they come in different forms depending on needs and complexity of disability.
We are expecting that each student will raise a minimum of £3 for their respective charity, hence our target of £165 but we really hope to exceed this target. If you are donating online to sponsor a Bourne boy, please make sure you put his name in the comments as there may well be a prize for the most money raised!
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails.
