Friends and Family,

For the past five months, we have been training hard for the Chicago Marathon that will take place on Sunday, October 9th. We have had blisters, aches and pains and injuries.  With that said, all that we have gone through to get here, isn’t anything compared to what those living with Type 1 diabetes go through on a daily basis.  

We have chosen to raise money for JDRF, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.  JDRF raises money to drive world-class research, providing funds for the very best projects.  They aim to find new ways to treat type 1 diabetes and its complications, prevent type 1 from developing in the first place and to someday FIND A CURE. Type 1 diabetes is a chronic, life threatening condition.  People diagnosed with it rely on numerous insulin injections or pump infusions every day, just to stay alive. 

Type 1 diabetes affects 350,000 people in the UK - over 25,000 of them are children.  Incidence of type 1 is increasing by four per cent each year, particularly in children under five.  As we are both mothers, those are scary statistics.   

So many of our family and friends have been diagnosed with diabetes over the years.  We have seen firsthand what it means to live with diabetes.  We have decided this is one way we can do our part.  With your help we hope to raise money for JDRF to help them in their fight and to help them make a difference.
