Story

WE DID IT!!!

Charlotte and Jeremy crossed the Finish line and "landed in Rock" after a 39 minute swim for the mile estuary crossing between Padstow and Rock.

Kate and Andrew and Emma Hoskyn followed and cheered as the Kemp family completed the challenge.

GBP750 raised so far fo charirity and sincere and heartfelt thanks for all those who have supported us; technically (SilverFinz swimming Club Phuket), financially (our wonderful sponsors), spiritually (Rob and Janine and the congregation of St. Thomas of Cantebury in Camelford) and in all other ways.

In cold and rather wet (almost wintery) conditions the swim was a real challenge for the 300+ swimmers  but for a great cause and after weeks of preparation the family made it across together and is stronger for it and looking forward to 2011!

Thank you all!!!

Photos will be updated very shortly

Love from us all,

Andrew, Kate, Charlotte and Jeremy xxxx

The Padstow to Rock Fundraising Swim for Cancer Support.

The Kemp family are going to try their very hardest to swim the 1.6km tidal estuary between Padstow and Rock. Swimming together, Andrew, Kate, Charlotte and Jeremy will join 296 other swimmers to try and complete this annual challenge whilst raising funds for cancer support and care.

We seek your kind and generous support as the Kemp family swim together for cancer at 5pm on 24th July 2010.

Thank you.

All rather idyllic, warm and comfortable....Ideal preparation for an english summer, estuarine swim.

Hi Everyone - Kate Kemp here and very pleased to report I was back in the pool yesterday evening, comfortably paced by Jeremy for 1.1km - so 1.6km no problem!!  Arm all ok and easily managed to lift a G&T later so very pleased! Charlotte has said she would pace me again tonight so family training sessions are now back in earnest.  We have 10 more days of pool based training in the gorgeous sunny tropical climes of Phuket - hooray :-) :-) before flying to UK for 2 weeks of ocean based training in Cornwall to acclimatize for this Atlantic challenge... Thank you so much for suporting us and the MacMillan Cancer Support foundation  - we really appreciate it for this very worthy cause.  The Kemp family will be ready and we are sure we can do it! Thank you xxxx

                                                            ************ Breaking News *************

Kate Kemp, having broken her right elbow in late April, is now working on improving joint mobility by undergoing physio as well as a carefully scheduled exercise regimen with a weighted gin and tonic glass that gets larger as flexibility and strength returns.  Yet to get back in the water with the new somewhat bionic arm but looking forward to doing so ahead of and in time for the July 24 swim.

Hi my name is Andrew Justin Harvey Kemp and I was born last century, my favourite colour is sometimes purple and sometimes blue, I am hoping that with a good dry summer, a low low tide there is a chance that my toes might still touch the bottom.  I have been told that at the finish there is the best pasty and glass of sauvignon blanc Rock can muster.  We will be there and will post a photo or two for the record afterwards.  Very many thanks for supporting us all.
