The Kingswinford Eskimos – A Brief History
In January 2007, a group of friends from Kingswinford embarked on the first of a long line of physically demanding challenges, this being the infamous and aptly named ‘Wolverhampton Tough Guy’, which involves a grueling 8 mile run, followed by a five mile extreme assault course which included running through fire, tackling an electric fence that carries twice the charge of voltage that it takes to stun a bull, and an endless stream of full submergence water hazards all in sub zero temperatures.
The person who entered us into our inaugural team challenge did so under the hastily chosen name of ‘The Kingswinford Eskimos’.
Since then, other challenges have followed, either as a team or individually, and these have included various Marathons, and most recently a return to ‘Tough Guy 2008’, where we all successfully completed the course, and managed to avoid hypothermia for a second year running.
The Kingswinford Eskimos are now back in training, for what can only be described as our hardest challenge to date by far, and one of the hardest challenges that could ever be undertaken in the United Kingdom.  Our goal is to climb the ‘3 Highest Peaks’ of Britain, these being Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scafell Pike in England, and Mount Snowdon in Wales.
This is commonly attempted by the odd few in a time of 24 Hours, however, in keeping with The Kingswinford Eskimo’s philosophy of ‘pushing to the absolute limits’, we have decided to make it a ’20 Hours Challenge’.
The training required to enable us to complete this task in the 20 Hours time frame will be extreme.  Where physically possible, we will need to be running up to each of the 3 summits and then back down again, and in addition to that, Scafell Pike, (regarded as the hardest mountain to negotiate), must be climbed in complete darkness.

Our goal is to complete this challenge, and in doing so, to raise awareness and funds for ‘Cancer Research UK’ - a cause which is very close to the hearts of The Kingswinford Eskimo’s.  Staggeringly, 1 in 3 of us will contract Cancer, in some form, during our lifetime.  Many, many more will be directly affected as members of family and close friends contract the disease.  People’s lives are turned upside down every single day as the disease can strike at any time.  Although the overall number of new cancers continues to increase, the good news is that successful treatment rates for many of the most common types of Cancer are improving rapidly.  This is largely down to the generosity of the British Public when choosing to make a donation to Cancer Research UK, no matter how small that might be.  Every passing second is a chance to make a difference.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor us: Cancer Research UK will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

So please sponsor us now!

Many thanks for your support.
