TCS New York City Marathon 2014 · 2 November 2014 ·

Every day 250 people in the UK start losing their sight. With your help, we can be there when people need us most, support independent living, create an inclusive society and prevent avoidable sight loss. Every pound you raise will help create a future where sight loss is no longer a barrier.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

No one was more surprised than me to get a start in the London Marathon over 30 years ago.  Afterwards my five year old daughter said she wanted to run a marathon with me and 20 years later blackmailed me (without too much difficulty) into doing it again.  A day out with her dad.  Not to be left out her youngest sister, Kiran, who is studying in New York, tried the same thing recently (and successfully, who could resist?).  So we’re going to run the New York Marathon together in November and want to use this occasion to raise money for the Royal National Institution for Blind people (RNIB).  Since my mum, Kiran’s grandmother became blind, seven years ago, she has been determined to carry on as much as she can with her life without giving in to her disability.  I had just not appreciated how overwhelmingly blindness impacts everything in everything in a person’s life.  The help from the RNIB has been something that has made so much difference that we wanted to do what we could to raise money, by running this marathon and appealing to as many people as we can, to make a donation through this JustGiving site.

Weekday evenings for the rest of the summer and into the autumn I will be running in an RNIB T-shirt along the A40 leading out of London, Kiran will be running around Brooklyn so if you are stuck in traffic and see either of us, give us a toot on your horn.  Even better, give us a tenner (£ or $) or more) to a great cause.  We promise to write back to all those who can find it in them to support us and thank you all for your help in raising as much as we can to help the RNIB carry on their invaluable work.
