Cycle Cambodia and Vietnam · 1 August 2021

The Sickle Cell Society is the only national charity in the UK that supports and represents people affected by sickle cell disease to improve their overall quality of life. We provide information, advice, advocacy, respite, support services, hold talks, patient education seminars and training.

Story

Thanks very much for coming to this page and for considering making a donation - we will be incredibly grateful for anything you are able to give.

In case you don't know, sickle cell disease is a serious inherited blood disorder where red blood cells, which carry oxygen around the body, develop abnormally. This can result in tissue and organ damage, episodes of indescribable pain, and severe or life-threatening complications.

In the UK, the disorder is most commonly seen in people of African and Caribbean descent, which may account for the lack of funding, awareness and support that the condition generates.

With that in mind, we want to raise money and awareness for The Sickle Cell Society - an incredible charity that has been supporting people with Sickle Cell, raising awareness and lobbying for policy change for over 40 years.

To help raise funds, in November 2022, we will be cycling 450km from Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam, through the Mekong Delta, to Krong Siem Reap in Cambodia.

This will be a darn sight harder for one of us than when he was cycling to work regularly, and is rather scary for the other, who has definitely not cycled this kind of distance before. Plenty of hard work and some significant training will be required, but it’ll be worth it for the cause.

We will grateful for any support you are able to offer and hope you might check out The Sickle Cell Society to find out about the valuable work they do.
