Kleoski's Warwick in Africa: Teaching in Soweto, South Africa

Kleoski Teaches Maths with Warwick in Africa · 6 March 2018
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. My name is Destin Cleo Kouamba and I'm raising money for the Warwick in Africa programme.
As opposed to the standard expected of me as a Warwick student, I have dropped internships in finance and engineering to spend 6 weeks in Soweto, South Africa teaching mathematics, you may ask why?
Warwick in Africa's aim is to eradicate poverty in impoverished areas through education. Combining the skills of Warwick students in partnership with the local staff to raise educational standards in schools across South Africa, Tanzania & Ghana.
I have been privileged enough to have encountered many influential teachers in my formative educational years. They definitely diverted me from the path I was pursuing and against all the odds, helped me to be in the position I am today. For this reason, I want to give back by spending my summer teaching.
Practically, children benefitting from the programme report over a 20% increase in Mathematics tests. Showing the programme has a practical impact in schools so underresourced that some classes have no teachers.
Just £150 could pay for a school resources grant to buy whatever will make a real difference in that school. It could be anything from a new chalkboard, sports equipment or a carpenter to fix wobbly desks.
Thank you for your time in reading my profile,
I hope you will support me in this amazing adventure I will be undertaking!
