Boo Bit is raising money for Cancer Research UK
Story
Know your Bits is a cancer awareness project created by two friends to share a message and raise funds for Cancer Research UK. The Bits are a collection of illustrated characters inspired by the body, and so far they have shown to be interesting conversation starters not only about cancer but about general wellbeing and self awareness.
After the launch of the online Bits gallery in February 2015, we asked people to vote for their favourite character, the one with the most votes would be turned into an enamel pin and a piñata for a fundraising event. The Ovaries, Boo and Bee Bits tied in first place, so we set about making them material, working with local pin and piñata makers.
Many people have been touched by the characters and what they represent. We were delighted when friends decided to create a new branch of the project, Bits on the Run, and take part in Race for Life using the Bits characters to promote their activities. They have also helped us to make 3D printed character cookie cutters, toys and other stuff for our event.
Our collaboration with the community has extended to local food and drink companies, who have chosen to donate to our event at the end of April 2015.
