The foundation delivers sports to grass roots in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. A region blighted by decades of suffering, the foundation will increase facilities, standards, access and delivery of sport for all. It will create the bonds through sport that will better the lives of the peoples of the Kurdistan Region in Iraq.

Story

On 7th October 2006 the Control Risks fundraising team, spurred on by a massive display of financial, administrative and moral support, successfully completed the ascent of the highest mountain in Iraq, Halgurd (3,600 metres), in the Kurdistan Region.  Although the £6,000 target has been comfortably surpassed, thanks to the great generosity of the numerous donors (notably Control Risks itself), the fund remains open to anyone who intended to contribute but had not yet got round to it and who might now wish to reward the achievement as opposed to the mere intention.

The summit team consisted of:

James Blount, Duncan Barber, Pishtwans Maroof Nasir (Control Risks Iraq, Kurdistan Region);  Sirwan Rahman (brother of the late Salah Rahman and coordinator of the Sports Foundation); Ned Cranborne (visiting sponsor);  Delia Kaikhasraw, Botan Osman (Kurdistan Regional Government); Kak Abdullah, Kak Sherzad (support).

Background to Appeal

Having worked in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, where I set up the operation of Control Risks, since March 2006, I have come to recognise the unique nature of this outpost of democracy and prosperity in a troubled part of the world.  I would urge you to support the efforts of the Rahman family to commemorate Salah Rahman, who lost his life to terrorist action on 1st February 2004 in Erbil along with his father, Sami Abdul Rahman, and 96 others.  Salah, a dedicated Millwall supporter, would have welcomed this initiative to promote sport at a grass roots level among the boys and girls of the Region - a project which will reinforce the social cohesion of the country.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to donate: The Salah Rahman Sports Foundation will receive your money electronically and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in Gift Aid will be added to your donation at no cost to you.
