Story
Warrington Borough Council employees are currently raising awareness for the ASTRO Brain Tumour Fund, as unfortunately one of their colleagues, Karen Waller, Apprenticeship Manager, is receiving treatment for a brain tumour and is being supported by this charity.
The ASTRO Brain Tumour Fund is a charity focusing on funding research into low-grade brain tumours. The charity was founded by a lady called Katie Sheen after her sister’s husband Paul, was diagnosed with a low-grade brain tumour in 2000. Katie could find no research at all in the UK which was focused on this type of brain tumour and with the help of a loyal band of fundraisers, which continues to grow, made it her mission to change this fact.
To share their support for Karan and the fund, they held a fund raising day on 27 November 2013, including dressing down, a cake stall, tombola and huge raffle. Prizes were donated by the community and local businesses and there will be some fabulous gifts, just in time for Christmas! Over £500 has been raised so far.
But it doesn’t stop there. Colleagues have arranged a 6 team charity football tournament at Orford Park on 4 December. Players will pay £5 to play, and Orford Jubilee Neighbourhood Hub have offered the pitch and referees for free, so all proceeds will go straight to the charity.
And Tim Smith, Principal Manager, has been getting a bit hairy lately. He hasn’t shaved or had his hair cut since 1 November. He’s going right through to Friday 13 December when colleagues will shave one side of his head – hair and beard. Tim will then walk round for a week like that – shopping, Trafford Centre, Christmas do, everything. Oh, and just for good measure, the girls in the office are going to wax his chest as well. All will be captured and posted as a video nasty!
All proceeds will go to the ASTRO Brain Tumour Fund, and your support would be appreciated.
