The UCL Cancer Institute Research Trust exists to support the work of the UCL Cancer Institute. We aim to improve the quality of life and survival of those with cancer, and to develop a generation of new, more effective targeted and individualised treatments.

Story

Update 15th April: UCL CI have been incredibly helpful during the events of this past week. Please dig deep and help me raise lots and lots of cash for them

Thanks for popping by the my my JustGiving page.  Running for University College London Cancer Institute (UCL CI) is important for me on a number of levels.

I'm not kidding myself, the Marathon is going to be tough, but when I'm struggling I'm going to think about  a number of people who have bravely battled or are battling cancer.  Inspiration #1 will be my fabulous Mother who has fought Breast Cancer.  I will also be running in memory of my Nanna Carmichael, who did not win her battle.

Statistically, one in three of us will be diagnosed with cancer at one point in our lives.  I still remember the day when my Mum told me she had cancer... and so when they cramp sets in (at about mile 4), I will be motivated by thinking about how all the money that I raise will go towards preventing other daughters and families having to feel that pain.

Why UCL CI?  Well first of all, as a UCL Pharmacology graudate, I can speak first hand about the quality of scientists that UCL produces :).

Secondly, the stuff that the UCL CI is doing is mind blowing.  Their experimental treatment research allows cancer sufferers, including my Uncle, to be treated when conventional medicines have failed.  Secondly their pharamcogenetics (studying the genetic basis for the difference between cancers response to drugs ) research really is revolutionary and will shape futue, individually tailored, cancer treatments.

So, all in all, UCL CI is pretty fab and hopefully you're inspired to donate lots of lovely cash.

(Disclaimer - I will not be running as Paddington or Elvis... getting around will be hard enough without a costume!)
