What's happening?
In September 2016 I will be travelling to Borneo, Malaysia (for 13 weeks) as Expedition Photographer/Volunteer Manager with Raleigh International. To see what they do please check out their website, click on their logo on this page. Only a small percentage of funding raised through this page will go towards my keep in Borneo, I will be covering all other expenses e.g. flights, camera equipment, personal insurance, etc and the shortfall is covered by grants and other awards made to Raleigh. In brief, I will be part of a large team of volunteer medics, admin, logistics, communications and Venturers, who will be working collaboratively with local people on environmental and water sanitation projects in the Sabah region. This will be a big challenge on many levels; lack of personal space, the heat, the critters, language, and the living conditions will be very basic, I"m sure some of you will know what a 'long drop' loo is?
The challenge
So, I've decided to set myself a personal challenge to cycle the entire west coast of Ireland, a 2500km route along the Wild Atlantic Way and I hope to fundraise for Raleigh International along the way. I set off from Kinsale in County Cork on Saturday 26th March and plan to take approximately 4 weeks to cycle the length of the country back to my home town of Derry. I've been training very hard for this all winter, been out in all weathers, frozen toes, soaked to the skin, and hills, hills hills ... and with just a few weeks till I begin, I feel I've reached a stage where my fitness might just carry me through those kilometres. Fingers crossed.
Follow me
I'm a keen photographer so I hope I can find the time to capture the beauty of the Irish landscape, rural and urban as I go along. I will be posting/blogging as often as I can and you can follow me on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and Google+. My contact details can be found in my website www.elainefarrellphotography.com
Funding
And finally, I would be very grateful if you could donate whatever you can afford to my mega adventure, no amount is too little as it all goes to these projects to benefit local communities in Borneo. These are life changing projects, for healthier communities and to protect and sustain the fragile environment.
At the end of my trip I will put all the names of those who donated into a hat and whoever gets picked will get a print of their choice from the shots I take on the trip, or from my website.
Thanks so much for taking time to visit my page, and for any donation you make. I truly appreciate it.
