London Marathon · 26 April 2015

We’re here for the cure. Cure Parkinson’s is working with urgency to find new treatments to slow, stop and reverse Parkinson’s.

Story

As many of you will know, I ran the London Marathon 2014 to raise money for Cure Parkinson's Trust, a charity very close to our family.  My Uncle suffers with PD, and whilst I have always felt hugely helpless throughout his illness, I hope that I can at least do something to help such a worthwhile cause that is helping sufferers like my Uncle John.  My latest challenge is to run Brighton Marathon 2015, London Marathon 2 weeks later, then 100km London to Brighton 4 weeks after that.  It is a HUGE ask of my body, but nothing compared to what sufferers of PD endure.

The main reason for this choice of charity is because the trust is connected to the London Hospital where the surgeon informed my Uncle that they could improve his quality of life.  This was the hospital where they subsequently performed deep brain stimulation operation in February 2011.  As John says 'it is very near to his heart....and brain!', and such pioneering work is essential to help other sufferers in the future.

The Cure Parkinson's Trust excels in identifying research needed Parkinson's, and has a flexible approach to grant awards that avoid delays and bureaucracy that impede progress.  They have become the Michael J Fox Foundation of the UK, and the concentration on truly translational research that addresses patient expectations in Parkinson's is a refreshing approach in the search for a cure.

Thank you all for visiting my page, and I really appreciate your support and donations
