Story
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. When I was a child for about ten consecutive years my family and I would go to Greenwich and cheer the London Marathon runners on and I naively said that one day that would be me!
Well, next April 26 2009 - despite not having done any running since leaving school - I am proud to say I will be running the London Marathon to raise funds for Farleigh Hospice.
Why Farleigh Hospice?
They provide vital support each and every week, totally free of charge to about 250 local people affected by cancer and other life limiting illnesses either in patients homes, in 3 day hospices or the inpatient unit in Essex.
Unfortunately, my partner and I know only too well how amazing the care is that they provide as they cared for, treated and supported his mother during her 10 year battle against cancer, which she sadly lost in 2005.
To fund this care, the charity relies on the generosity of the mid Essex community and people like yourselves. So please, I know this is not the best time to be asking for your support! But I would be very grateful if you could sponsor me and help me raise the £2000 target set by Farleigh Hospice.
Donating
The good news is for every pound you pledge, my employer (Clydesdale Bank) will match that pledge :-) The money I raise will go to Clydesdale Banks Charity Partner, Help the Hospices, but specifically to Farleigh Hospice, in Chelmsford. Through the bank's matched funding a further 50% of all funds raised will go to Farleigh Hospice with the remaining 50% going to Help the Hospices.
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Farleigh Hospice gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
How am I doing?
I ran the Great Bentley half marathon in 2 hrs 38, followed by the Brentwood half marathon in 2 hrs 28 - getting quicker :-) I then ran 20 miles in 4 hours on sunday 5th April with my training group from Farleigh. So I am hoping to run the actual marathon in 5 hours!!!
So please sponsor me now. Thank you ever so much.
