Story
We think there’s nothing better than escaping to the mountains, so we would love you to consider helping inner-city children from tough backgrounds experience the thrill you get skiing, seeing tons of snow and that on-top-of-the-world feeling you get from the mountains. The children Snow Camp support would otherwise be very unlikely to ever get a holiday to the mountains, let alone learn a new sport like skiing and enjoy the freedom of a week away from their tough lives at home. If we can help just one child experience skiing and perhaps change their outlook on life then we’d love to be able to!
Snow-Camp is an innovative youth charity that uses a unique combination of skiing, snowboarding and life-skills programmes to support inner-city young people. The young people that they work with live in urban environments, where crime, gang violence, drug and alcohol use and anti-social behaviour go hand-in-hand with low incomes, unemployment, poor quality housing, educational challenges and a lack of quality outdoor space.
Snow-Camp recognises that young people growing up in these environments have very low aspirations around education or employment, a lack of opportunity to participate in any sport or leisure activity and are at a high risk of becoming involved in the negative activities that surround them. Through learning skiing and boarding and then taking part in a week-long holiday in the mountains, the children create a new sense of self esteem and increasing aspiration to achieve in education, training and employment.
