Bupa Great Yorkshire Run 2012 · 2 September 2012 ·

We are the largest charity dedicated to kidney research in the UK. Kidney disease ruins and destroys lives. Treatments are gruelling, relentless. There is no cure. We say this isn't good enough. We will transform kidney health. Kidney disease ends here.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page

I have set up this page to fundraise money for kidney reaserch. Myself and my younger brother Jamie will be taking part in a 6mile run in Scarborough, not sure on dates yet but i will update it on here as soon as i know. Any donations would be hugeley appreciated. Everyone is welcome to come and support me and my younger brother Jamie on the day of the run.

We are planning to do this run for the charity i have chosen because our younger brother Ryan, 15, suffers with renal failiure. We didn't know this up untill March 30th 2011. They believe he was born with the disase and it has deteriorated as he has got older.

Ryan has never let the disaese get him down or get in the way of any of his dreams. He lives his life like he is a perfectly healthy 15year old boy. He is an inspiration to all of us! He doesnt let it get him down he has kept positive through all of this which has been a HUGE help to my family especially my mum and dad. It has been such a difficult time for our family but we have stuck together and we are getting through this.

Me & my dad put ourselves forward to give Ryan a kidney as we were matching blood types. My dad got tested first but there was a complication so they came to me, all my test results came back ok and my overall kidney function was 100% (53% left & 47% right)

On the 6th June 2012 we got a date for the operation, we got told they were taking my left kidney through keyhole surgery on the 6th July 2012.

On the 5th of July 2012 Me, ryan my mum and dad travelled to leeds for the operation, I would be in St.James & Ryan was in LGI. The next morning 6th July 2012 was operation day. I went in for my operation at 8:30am, all went well and i was back on the ward for 11:30am. Ryan then went down for his operation at 1:30pm and his operation was 6 hours long. I cannot imagine how hard this day was for my mum, dad, brothers & all the rest of the family.

After a very long wait we got the good news that the operation had been succesful and ryan was doing well.

Ryan is still doing well today there are still endless journeys to leeds and back for checkups for him but without those 2 hospitals i dont think we would be where we are today. All the staff were amazing!!!

This is the type of disease that you dont really understand or realise how serious it is untill it happens to someone you know or love. Our family are absolutely amazing and there support for each other has been outstanding throughout all of this. I love them all so much!!

What you have to remeber though is that a kidney donation is not a cure it is a treatment which is why we are raising money for this charity in hope that one day there will be a cure for renal failure.

Thankyou again for visiting my page any amount of money helps xxx
