Story

Hi my name is Laura and I am taking part in the 2.6 Challenge to help raise money for SLOW. Due to COVID19 many charities in the UK are currently struggling with funding and I would like to help give back to a charity that has helped me so much in the past year.

SLOW, which stands for Surviving the Loss of Your World, is a charity that supports bereaved parents after the loss of their children. Founded by the two most amazing women Nic and Susie who started to regularly check in with each other after the loss of their own daughters Naomi Grace and Bella. SLOW runs regular support groups where bereaved parents can come together to support each other.

I am a bereaved parent. I became a mum for the first time when my beautiful son Evan was born on the 17th of February, 2019. Evan was absolutely perfect, and healthy but tragically at the age of 6 weeks old Evan passed away unexpectantly from SIDs. This has been an absolutely devastating and traumatic thing to happen to myself, my husband and our families and the effect it has had on our lives has at times felt completely overwhelming.

I can say with 100% belief that without the support of SLOW that I would not be here today. After I lost Evan, I had days I couldn't even get out of bed or feed myself and I was completely isolated. SLOW gave me somewhere to go, to get up and dressed for, and gave me the support I needed to slowly start to rebuild my life.

In support of SLOW and in memory of my son Evan (and because I am under lock down here in London and can't go outside) I am attempting to cook and flip 26 pancakes. Mostly because I didn't want to do something like burpies, also because I love pancakes. I will live stream and record this attempt on my Instagram on Wednesday the 29th of April at 8am London time (5pm Sydney time for those back in Australia). Some people climb mountains, some run marathons.. Others flip pancakes. I have never flipped a pancake before in my life so lock down is the perfect time to perfect this art form!

SLOW is a charity that means so much to me and any support you can give I would appreciate so much. Whether thats a donation (every little bit helps!), or sharing this with your friends, or maybe you can take part and do your own pancake flipping challenge (and tag @slowgroup in it!).

Thank you to you all for your love and support and especially to the other SLOW parents I love you guys.
