Story
Hello everyone,
Just a quick message to thank everyone for their support and sponsorship for the Half Marathon. As training had gone on, I had eventually hoped to break 1h30, but unfortunately I didn't quite manage it, and finished in 1h34.49. A hip niggle slowed me down for a few miles towards the end, and I felt a little drained on the day...perhaps a bit too enthusiastic with the training in September!
Anyway, it was not by any means a disaster, even if I was a little disappointed initially. The ultimate aim was to finish well, and raise money for the Uganda trip. I am pleased to say that through these donations and other generous donations from trusts, I have been able to meet my target. There is some money left over which I am going to split between donating to Christians in Sport and to the church in Córdoba, Argentina.
Thank you again for being a part of it; it definitely motivated me to get round!
God bless,
Laura xx

Hi all!
It's not quite 1500m on the track, but in order to get people to sponsor someone for a half marathon whose main sport is actually running I thought I should set myself a bit of a challenge! I'm sure I'll be in just as much pain
So, stepping up from middle distances on the track, I've decided to take on 13.1 miles, with the aim of doing it in 1h30mins, which is an average of 7min miling pace for fellow running nuts.
I'm going to be running the Birmingham Half Marathon in October primarily to raise money for a trip to Uganda that I will go on as part of the CIS Internship year from Sept 2008 until June 2009. We'll be going out there in about February to support one of CIS's mission partners, to both lead and help train others as they tell the local community and families through sport about the hope to be found in Jesus Christ.
My target of £1500 should comfortably cover the costs of the trip from door to door. If I manage to go beyond my target, then depending on how the fundraising in general is going, I am likely to use some of the extra money to cover costs of travel within the UK, which we interns will be doing a lot of as we go out and about supporting various university groups. I also plan to send at least some of it to the small church I have worked with in Córdoba, Argentina; it is a growing evangelical church reaching out to the local shanty town in the poorer district of Pueyrredón. Eventually I would love to get back there, preferably with Christians in Sport, and support them in the work they are doing there and all over the country. Those who know me well know that "soy argentina de corazón!" (i.e. English by name, Argentine by nature...;-)
Thanks for visiting my fundraising page, I appreciate it!
Lotsa love, Laura xx
(Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Christians in Sport gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.)
