Thanks to all our supporters. Just a couple of days to go and everything is in place. A clash with the olympic torch on its way through Bristol has meant our start time is brought forward to 7am. An early night for all of us Tuesday I think.
On 23 May 2012 4 blokes with completely mixed ability get on their bikes, in support of St Peter’s Hospice, and set out on a journey from one Victorian structure here in England to another in France. With around 300 cycling miles between them, some very tough hills, a language barrier and just 3 days, the 4 boys will make their way from the Clifton Suspension Bridge to the Eiffel Tower in Paris.
The team will have to tackle around half of the journey on the first day with the toughest terrain of the whole challenge and all with a fixed time limit in order to catch a ferry across the channel that evening. To add to the pressure the team will bumble along with no support crew and rely on their own map reading skills
The Team
James Howell – has been cycling for 4 years now (though it doesn’t show), never done anything this big so is very nervous and excited at the same time! What came about over a cup of coffee has turned into this horrible idea! James is originally from Swansea so he is hoping the hills won’t be a problem, fingers crossed his legs hold out if not, what’s French for taxi?
Paul Lowe – Paul completed his first cycle challenge last year but this is his first on a road bike and will have to tackle a first day longer than any day on his previous cycle challenge. Paul enjoys challenging himself through exercise. He is the king of spin, running a weekly spinning class but during this challenge he needs to be on a bike that moves to go the distance.
Shaun Langson – is a personal trainer from JW Fitness Solutions and a karate Champion. He is full of energy but his last bike was a BMX. Now he has all the kit and looks the part but it is going to take a lot more than that to make this an easy ride!
Dan Godfrey – With legs half the size of others this journey will seem like double the distance. A keen cyclist on the flattest of roads this trip will most certainly be a test. Nothing a bag of ambition and Ipod stacked with Rock n Roll can’t fix!!
This is the story of a journey but we are not quite sure which yet, One Direction, The Hare and the Tortoise, The Fantastic 4 or Dumb and Dumber (when we find ourselves lost in the middle of France unable to read a map or speak the language).
Whatever the outcome it is a tough challenge for each one of us in our own way, and we are pleased to support such a great charity that really makes a difference to people’s lives.
A Well Deserving Charity
St Peter’s Hospice is Bristol’s only adult hospice caring for local people with life-limiting illnesses. Their commitment is to improve the quality of life of patients while extending care and support to their families and loved ones.
All care is provided free of charge. It costs over £6.5million and the NHS contributes just 23% of the annual running costs. For the rest they are totally reliant on the generosity of the public who support us through any number of different ways
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
