Zanzibar - you may have seen someone's honeymoon photos - mile after mile of palm-fringed beaches - but do you know the real story behind the pictures?
1 in 6 children die before they are 7 years old.
Average life expectancy is 47 years.
1 in 180 women die giving birth.
HIPZ is wanting to rewrite these statistics. Through the revival of a district hospital in the south of Zanzibar, HIPZ is pioneering a new approach to healthcare, working in partnership with the Ministry of Health and the local community.
80,00 local people stand to benefit from your support. New hospital equipment; training for local medical staff; vaccinations for babies. HIPZ is entirely managed and staffed by volunteers, so your donation will go directly to to the people who need it most.
We're heading out for 6 months to help, but to prove our mettle first, we're having to circumnavigate the entire island (350 kms - and most of that is on sand!) - on bicycles. It'll be a great way to meet the locals. And we'll have a few hospital beds to choose from when we crash out at the end!
£25 for 10 mosquito nets - stop 10 kids getting malaria
£50 for a set of surgical instruments
£75 for a maternity bed
£100 for the C-section surgical instrument set
