Swansea Bay 10K 2011 · 25 September 2011 ·
Forty years ago few children survived leukaemia. Now the survival rate is 80%.
Forty years ago only 46% of women diagnosed with breast cancer survived five years or more. Now that figure is also 80%.
Forty years ago 3% of people diagnosed with pancreatic cancer survived five years or more. That figure is still 3%.
On Sunday 25th September seven members of our club will be running the Swansea 10k to raise money for Pancreatic Cancer UK, in memory of Juliana Cartwright. Juliana passed away in March this year, following a three year battle with pancreatic cancer. She was mother to Joseph (age 7), Summer (age 5) and Raphael (age 3), and wife to our friend and team-mate Gareth.
Pancreatic Cancer UK is a national charity which provides support and information to patients and their families, campaigns to raise awareness of pancreatic cancer amongst GPs, policy makers, politicians and the general public, and funds high-quality research into early detection/diagnosis and more effective treatments. It receives no government funding and so relies heavily on the efforts of fundraisers.
Please help us raise money for this very worthy cause. Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. Once you donate, JustGiving will send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer.
Thank you!
