      I would be really happy if, instead of buying me something, you would make a contribution to the setting up of a small library in Mysore, Southern India. It will be called 'Lilly's Library' which I'm very excited about.

      It will have a mixture of English books and books in Kannada (the local language of the state of Karnataka).  Books will be bought which are of particular interest to women, children, craftsmen and farmers, people of different religions and lower castes (especially dalits) and also people who can barely read or who can't read at all.

      The library will also have newspapers for people who can't afford to buy a daily paper of their own. Most families in Mysore have no access to books. Most people have no electricity in their homes either so the library will be a place where everyone can meet and read together or study. We will also be able to pay for a librarian's salary.

       I am really excited about the chance to do something that I can be proud of.  I was looking through The Good Gift Guide and I chose to try and set up a library because I love reading. I also wanted there to be something real for me to remember my Bat Mitzvah by.
