Story
Very sadly, Bransby lost lovely mare Lizzie to an incurable condition affecting her back and legs. Lizzie developed the condition over the winter and received all the veterinary care and special support she needed to help her cope. Sadly, she took a turn for the worse at the beginning of March and our vet explained there was nothing more we could do for her and putting her to sleep was the only humane option for her.
Lizzie had been rescued in terrible condition with her friend Annie in 1991. She couldn’t stand when she arrived and needed weeks of intensive care from Bransby staff. After making a complete recovery Lizzie spent 20 happy years as a Bransby resident and adoption animal and was one of the Charity’s best known and most popular residents.
Bransby has set up a special memorial fund for this much loved mare to help us remember her by. We will create a purpose built intensive care facility in her name at the Charity’s new Equine Reception Centre which is currently under development. This will help ensure that other horses who arrive in the same sad state as Lizzie can receive all the emergency care they need and hopefully go on to enjoy happy, healthy life for as many years as Lizzie did.
