About SolarAid:
SolarAid believe that through spreading brilliant ideas we can achieve massive, measurable change against some of the biggest problems facing humanity. Looking at the stats, it seems like a no-brainer: 98% of rural Africa live off grid, and rely on kerosene lanterns to light their homes and schools. Kerosene is brutally expensive (consuming an average of 20% of household income for lighting alone). It’s also highly polluting, dangerous and produces toxic fumes when it burns. By selling solar lights, rather than give them away as aid, SolarAid is catalysing markets and offering clean, affordable lighting that lasts. Together, SolarAid believe we can eradicate kerosene lanterns from Africa by 2020.
