Cantanti Camerati is a Richmond based choir who are planning to travel to one of the poorest countries in the world as a cultural gesture of friendship and solidarity towards a people rebuilding their lives and their country after the ravages of civil war. We will need a lot of help to achieve our aims and would really appreciate any support that you can give us.

Story

As you are likely to know if you are looking at this page, I'm not a very natural athlete, but I am taking part in this 10k race to raise money for our choir's trip to Sierra Leone in October 2009.

I'm an alto in the Richmond-based chamber choir Cantanti Camerati.  18 of us from the choir are planning to travel to the capital of Sierra Leone - Freetown - to spend a week running musical workshops, visiting schools and performing with local choirs.  We'll be handing over second-hand musical instruments that we are collecting (any donations gratefully received) to the Ballanta national music academy, which has very few resources.

We believe that cultural regeneration is important and often overlooked.  Since the end of its devastating civil war, Sierra Leone has received charitable / NGO support working towards physical and structural improvements.  Culturally, however, there are extremely limited resources - if we can help provide instruments, music and opportunities to perform and enjoy music, some of our aims will have been achieved.  We hope and believe that we can make a difference.  The Ballanta Academy in Freetown is highly enthusiastic about our project.

Over £2,500 has already been raised and several more events are planned, but I would really appreciate your support in making a contribution towards this project.

We also have a Cantanti concert coming up at St James' Piccadilly on 11th July, where you can hear some of our music.  See
