"Although West Berkshire Mencap is affiliated with The Royal Mencap Society they do not receive any funding from them.  This means that they need to raise all the money to support their services for children and adults with learning disabilities themselves.  They support people of all ages and help children and adults learn new skills, form and keep friendships and provide families with respite time to allow them to stay as a family unit.

Due to local funding cuts, the risk of their services reducing or closing completely is greater than ever. They are a lifeline for many families who just would not be able to cope without them. For us, they offered afterschool and summer camps.  Our son was able to play with other children and make friends, something that just could not happen otherwise.  They offer a support for all of the family, running groups and training for siblings and parents."
