DofE Diamond Challenge · 31 December 2016 ·

We’re more determined than ever to make sure new generations, especially young people from disadvantaged groups, can discover the power of DofE.

Story

2016 was the 60th year of the Duke of Edinburgh Awards and with that came the 'Diamond Challenge' an opportunity for people to push themselves out of their comfort zones to raise money for the DofE Awards. So I decided to get involved and this is what I came up with...

I am in Australia for most of February and decided that I was going to conquer two things…

1). 60km of swimming in 3 weeks

2). My fear of swimming in Sharky Waters

Whilst I am away I am going to swim a total of 60km which is 20km per week, equalling 3km per day, I am going to do this in a mixture of both open water (The shark invested seas), conquering my fear of swimming in warm waters, where we know Sharks are lurking as well as in the comfort of outdoor swimming pools. I hope to engage with local Surf Life Saving Clubs in Australia to support me on my open water sections as I also work for Surf Life Saving Great Britain and am a member of Newquay Surf Life Saving Club, so I want to take this opportunity to raise awareness of Water Safety and Drowning prevention in our water ways.
