Keech Hospice is a charitable organisation providing free specialist palliative and end-of-life care for adults and children in Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire, and Milton Keynes. With a mission to help people live well and die with dignity.

Story

Over the last however many years, i have always tried to give something to various charities by taking part in events, mainly running ( 5k, 10k, 1/2 marathon, full marathon and an ultra marathon!) but also including a swimmathon, a 26.2 mile walk, obstacle course challenges to name just a few...now for something totally different....

In just one months time, i will be travelling to Kerala,South India and leading a  group of 13 trekkers on a trek around this amazing region. It is such an honor for me to have this responsibility for such an amazing charity, who i am totally committed to and i know the work and care Keech provides has touched many people close to me.

During our time in India, we will be trekking in the Western Ghats, which will be some what of a challenge taking into account the terrain we are covering.

We are not only raising money for our local hospice by taking part in this trek; we are also going to be leaving a legacy in Kerala where our final day is going to be spent as our 'Project Day'. We will be working at a local tribal school ( 450 pupils under the age of 11), where we will create, design and paint educational murals on the external walls to encourage learning so local children will thrive and continue to learn, in turn helping them to gain a good education which will lead on to work and providing for their families.

We are also going to be visiting a local orphanage which will be a very emotional experience i am sure; but, if our visit can raise a smile it is very much worth it :-)

We have been asked to take a number of items as 'gifts' for the children. I have been very fortunate to have been invited in to Aston Middle School ( Dunstable Grammer School) before they closed their doors for the final time. I was given free reign of classrooms to take whatever i thought would be put to good use. I have a large amount of pens, pencils, highlighter pens, reading books, exercise books, maths instruments and various other bits and pieces. I have also been lucky to have been invited along to Luton Town FC to receive a donation of 30 football shirts! The final items we are looking for to take are girls hair bands/ scrunchies. These are in short supply so any we can donate will be very gratefully received. If you would like to buy some hairbands to donate for us to take, please email me lyrussell@keech.org.uk and i can arrange to collect.

Thank you so much for reading my page; If you can spare a donation towards our fundraising for our local adults and childrens hospice to continue their amazing work with children, adults and their families living with life limiting illness or terminal illness, i will be eternally grateful xx

( I have set my target pretty low, as i know i have so many very generous friends, but i am hoping to raise as much as i possibly can for KHC :-) xx)
