Story

Staff from The Manchester Adult Cystic Fibrosis Centre will once again be running the Great Manchester Run in order to raise money the centre.

Last year we were overwhelmed by the support shown us as we raised over £1500, enough to buy two brand new state of the art exercise bikes for our Physio Rooms, so we want to go for it again and see what we can raise!

Our team this year is;

  • Alison: CF Physiotherapist
  • Diane: CF & Diabetes Specialist Nurse
  • Katrina: CF Pharmacist
  • Liz & Andy: Pharmacists, Liz worked at the unit and was part of the team last year
  • Richard & Stewart: the Admin Team

The Manchester Adult Cystic Fibrosis Centre cares for over 420 Cystic Fibrosis patients across the Greater Manchester and Lancashire area. This makes us one of the largest Cystic Fibrosis centres in the UK.

We have a specialised and dedicated team of doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, dieticians, diabetes specialists, psychologists, pharmacists and social workers who are always on hand to offer help and support to all of our patients. We also have our own research team and have conducted many important and highly valued studies into the treatment of Cystic Fibrosis

The centre consists of two main areas;

  • Pearce Ward, where we offer our patients top quality care and accommodation when they require long term continuous care which can sometimes be for months at a time. The ward has it's own dedicated chefs, exercise rooms and many other comforts such as Sky TV and Wifi.
  • Outpatients, where our dedicated team offer our patients routine clinical reviews and support through out the year. All of our team is available at every appointment to offer patients whatever help or advice they may need.

Cystic Fibrosis is a genetic disease that primarily affects the lungs and digestive system and can lead to further problems with liver diseases and Diabetes.

Advances in care and especially the advancement of lung transplantation has meant that Cystic Fibrosis patients are now living much longer and healthier lives than in past decades, however there is still no cure and many patients still struggle.

This is a cause close to all of our hearts and it will be a proud day for us all to be running for the unit and our patients.

Any donations will go a long way to help us keep offering our patients the same high quality of care and support as we continue to keep fighting Cystic Fibrosis together.

Thank you
