One mad day we decided to take on not one, but two 5km challenges to raise money for Chestnut Tree House children's hospice. Our fundraising target is £285 - the amount it costs to cover one hour of all care services at Chestnut Tree House. 

So, on Saturday 6 May, we did the Color Obstacle Rush in Brighton and we'll be dragging ourselves around the UK's muddiest military-style obstacle course for Operation: MUD on Sunday 9 July.

Why we're doing it:
Chestnut Tree House is the children's hospice for East and West Sussex, Brighton and Hove, and South East Hampshire, and cares for around 300 children and young adults with progressive life-shortening conditions. The current costs for running the specialist care services at the hospice and out in the community are over £3.5 million each year, and only 7% of this comes from central government. Families are never charged for care they receive, so the charity relies heavily on the support and generosity of the local community – both individuals and businesses.

Forget any depressing impressions you may have of a hospice – Chestnut Tree House is an inspiring place, and while there are inevitably sad moments, it is also full of fun, love and laughter, and provides a calm, relaxing environment for children and families. The charity's goal is to make sure families can enjoy their time together, make the most of the little things, and have practical and social support throughout each child's life, however short it may be. There are potentially 1,000 families with life-limited children in Sussex, and Chestnut Tree House can only keep their doors open and reach out to all the children and families that need help with support from people like you.
