Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I'm aiming to complete Ironman 70.3 UK, and in the process raise some much needed funds for the Rotary Club and help local families across the South West. The scale of the challenge that awaits me on Sunday 16 June 2013 is as follows:

Swim 1.2 miles in the chill waters of Wimbleball Lake, then

Cycle 56.4 miles (climbing 3,905 ft) in the heart of Exmoor National Park, and finally

Run 13.1 miles (a half-marathon).

Sound remotely tempting??? Thought not.  Whilst this may only be a half-Ironman in distance, it is widely acknowledged as being the toughest course on the Ironman circuit. I've never attempted anything of this magnitude before (if you saw me on a bike, you'd understand why :-) ). This challenge will require 10+ hours/ 100+ miles of training every week for the next 3 months, alongside the day job and family commitments...........what on earth was I thinking?

The Rotary Club have given me the opportunity to raise funds for several charities at once, and they are:

1. Children's Hospice South West, who I've supported previously in my marathon exploits.

2. Cancer Charities, who have supported and continue to support close friends and family members through some of the worst times imagineable:

§CLIC Sargent (Cancer & Leukaemia in Children)

§Cancer Research UK

§Macmillan Cancer Support

§Leukaemia Research Fund

§Marie Curie Cancer Care

3. Life Education Centres

4. Air Ambulance

5. Help for Heroes
