At Alzheimer’s Society we’re working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. We do this by giving help to those living with dementia today, and providing hope for the future by campaigning to make dementia the priority it should be and funding groundbreaking research.

Story

Born in 1956 and having lived his whole life in Hatfield, Malcolm has recently been diagnosed with ‘young onset Alzheimers’ and wanted to do something to help the organisation he is now getting to know, and is which working hard to support those with Alzheimers.

Married to Jennifer, and with three children, Gemma, Callum and Cameron, Malcolm has enjoyed relatively good health. Indeed, in late teens and early 20’s he played a high standard of football with his one and only club, Heronswood United, formed largely from school and family friends of the day. It is rather ironic that in his latter years, team manager Roy Vye endured the same condition. He has also enjoyed walks along Hadrians Wall, through Snowdonia and an amusing summit of notorious Pendle Hill.

Malcolms early employment was with Post Office Counters in London, but for the greater part of his working life, and currently, he runs his own landscape gardening service. Indeed, he is currently engaged in ticket sales to win his services for a day, again, to raise much needed funds for the Alzheimers Society.

On Saturday 30th June, around 7am, Malcolm, and youngest son Cameron will join friends, Sean and Ryan Beman and John Spavins to embark upon a full marathon distance trek from Avebury to Stonehenge taking in some stunning scenery through areas the public do not usually enjoy access. Jennifer (schools T.A.) Gemma (art university graduate) and eldest son Callum (budding film maker) will be supporting them all the way and, technology permitting, updating this site with images of their departure, progress and arrival at Stonehenge on Saturday afternoon.
