We’re the only charity fighting to end child abuse in the UK and Channel Islands. That’s why we help children who’ve been abused to rebuild their lives, we protect children at risk, and we find the best ways of preventing child abuse from ever happening.

Story

Hi all! Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.  Let me tell you a wee bit about where I am at with the whole crazy running thing and the importance of sponsorship for NSPCC.

I started running about 9 months ago and at that point I wasn't able to run to the end of my street (honestly).  I was able to run for about 15 seconds back then and well it didn't help much that I was about 8 stone heavier then too!!!  But by slowly building on my very small running achievements I set myself a big goal one day and ran 3 miles and was over the moon!!!  That's when I secretly decided to try to train and I am now up to 18 miles in my training for the marathon and can even do hills without walking!!!  I am more nervous about running the marathon than I was about giving birth to my daughter BUT if I can do this it will be the biggest achievement in my life so far. The completion time doesn't matter to me (you may fall asleep waiting for me at the finish line!) but it is the endurance that I can complete it, ideally with no walking at all.  If I can do this I have proven to myself that nomatter what your start in life you can achieve anything if you put a positive mind to it and believe in yourself against all odds.

Every run for me is a very personal journey of understanding of my life. I just wish that through your donations NSPCC can give this type of hope and inspiration to children and young people who are being neglected, abused and made to feel worthless.  This is happening every day, right on our doorsteps and these kids don't have a voice...some don't even realise that what is happening to them is wrong because it is all they know. Others are too frightened to say as they fear the consequences. Sometimes neighbours and family turn away as they don't want to get involved and this allows the ill treatment to continue. Please don't be another one to neglect these kids and join me in breaking their silence. Your donations (nomatter how small) all mount up and allows NSPCC to reach out to these children and young people to stop this cruelty and to give the kids a chance at a better, safer and happier life. They say money can't buy happiness - but I think maybe here it can.  When I am running on May Day I will be thinking about the kids out there right now needing help.  I will also be thinking about the excruciatingly crippling pain my whole body will be in!!! ;0)  I humbly thank you so much for taking the time to read this, rocking up for race day if you can (especially if you are packing a fun sized mars for me!) and donating if you can afford anything.
