Growing up, I was always inspired by my mum's work ethic, and it has undeniably had a profound impact on the person I am today.
My mum is from the Philippines, and for anyone familiar with the culture there, working abroad means gathering money to provide for everyone back home.
My mum worked in healthcare, often putting in long hours from 8 pm to 8 am. She would then come home, drop me off at school, and head to her part-time cleaning job from 9 am to 1 pm.
On Saturdays, I would either assist my dad with gardening or accompany my mum while she did her cleaning job. All of this was done to support our extended family back home.
Unfortunately, at the beginning of last year, she discovered that she had stage 1 cancer in her throat. Throughout the entire year, she battled through chemotherapy. Thanks to her incredible strength, she managed to overcome it. Due to the valuable lessons my mum taught me, such as never giving up, having a strong work ethic, and giving more than taking, I was able to create a situation where my mum didn't have to return to work.
This year, I am raising funds for Macmillan and undertaking a marathon each month. I'll be running a half marathon at the end of this month and another one next month. Following that, I plan to complete full marathons every month until the end of the year.
I hope that you could assist me in gathering donations over the year for this fantastic cause.
