Story

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.
How did we do?
24 Horses and their riders participated in the ride.

The weather on Sunday morning was not very kind to us and it was pouring for most of the ride but that didn't dampen our spirits.

Inky and I won first prize in the Fancy Dress as a Crusading Knight and Trustee Steed. I've posted a few photos on my JustGiving Page if you want a real laugh out loud moment. I think it was the helmet that clinched it ;-) Although, it did mean that there were times when I couldn't see where I was going which perhaps wasn't so good.

We set off in pairs at 9am. There were a few surprised faces as we paraded down the High Street in fancy dress.

We rode around the north and east sides of Wimbledon common and then crossed over the A3, through Robin Hood Gate and into Richmond Park.

We rode around Richmond Park, which is truly beautiful at this time of year. There were a lot of deer about but they were not disturbed by the horses or our outfits for that matter.

When we completed the circuit of Richmond park we returned to Wimbledon common where a small Show Jumping challenge awaited us. We all took part in that and then completed our journey around the south and west sides of the common.

The whole event took three and a half hours to complete.

We all successfully completed the course and although cold, wet and covered in mud by the end, it was all worth while to raise funds for the Royal Marsden Cancer Campaign.

The Event
I will be participating in the  Wimbledon Village Stables Sponsored Horse Ride on Sunday 26th October.  The ride follows trails around Wimbledon Common and Richmond Park.

I decided to take up riding again in November 2007. Having not ridden a horse for 30 years this proved to be an enjoyable but at times scary experience.  The scary part  of this event is that it's in fancy dress but it will also be the longest distance I have ridden in one ride since November and I am hopeful that I will still be able to walk the next day.

This  very special charity event has been organised each year for the last 32 years. The first ride in 1975 raised £550 and since then the Ride has raised over £500,000 in total providing much needed funds for many deserving charities.

The Royal Marsden has been chosen this year because cancer is an illness that affects so many of us, our families or our friends.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Royal Marsden Cancer Campaign gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

Please sponsor me.
