Maz runs for LDWP

Edinburgh Half Marathon 2013 · 26 May 2013 ·
This year I'm going back to Kenya with Lasallian Developing World Projects. In July/August 2013 I'll be spending 5 weeks in a remote part of South-Western Kenya, in a tiny village called Naroosura. Naroosura is an isolated and very poor village, with the nearest town a 3 hour drive. The needs here are considerable, as recent drought has made life even more difficult for people with a real shortage of food. I will be living and working in the local parish primary school with a group of 11 other volunteers to build much needed classrooms for its students. We will be working on the building site all day Monday-Friday for 5 weeks, whilst cooking for ourselves and living in very basic accommodation.
The expense of my project is £1100. To raise money this year I am running the Edinburgh Half Marathon in May 2013. This will probably kill me and will involve a lot of preparation, but this year I wanted to give myself a challenge to show how much I appreciate everyone's past and future donations!
This will sadly be my fourth and final year working with LDWP (and thankfully the last year I hassle everyone for money!). I am so grateful for all the support everyone has given the projects since 2009. Lasallian is an amazing charity, not just for the thousands of Asian and African children it helps but it has also been life changing for myself and everyone I've been away with.
I will be so grateful for any help you are able to give me in funding this year's project. Again, I assure you the help we give and the buildings we leave with LDWP are of a huge help and immensely appreciated by all the locals we meet and befriend. Particuarly, Kenya is a country where education is not a free or basic right for its young people, and with many unable to afford the fee to go to school, a large number end up on the streets. I have witnessed this first hand when working in Nyeri 2010, where the buildings we left immediately enabled the school to lift children directly off the street and house, feed and educate them.
THANK YOU for any donation you are able to leave, no matter how small! and I'll personally bust my ass in this marathon (and potentially die) to show you all my appreciation.
