Story
BIG WELCOME EVERYONE.
Thanks for Just Visiting.
As many of you know, I had a bit of a meltdown last September and have been trying to get back on my feet all year. Apart from the unbelieveably overwhelming love and support from family, friends and acquaintances, which still amazes me to this day, there was also another influence which helped me fall back in love with life.
Yes, you guessed it... YOGA.
At the risk of sounding overly dramatic, yoga has changed my life. Practising yoga under the guidance of some truly inspirational teachers, I have never felt better in both the physical and mental sense.
So, in an attempt to give something back, I am taking part in the OM YogaThon challenge.
What is a YogaThon?!
I will be attempting to complete 108 sun salutations on Saturday 29 October 2011 at 12pm, along with around 300 other yogis. This means around two hours of continuous flowing yoga, so I will be training quite intensely to get prepared. Trust me, in terms of yoga, this is pretty hardcore so make me work!
I am aiming to raise at least £1 for each sun salutation, which should total to a mimimun of £108 which I will donate to the Rainforest Foundation. Anything exceeding this amount is just extra beautiful and of course gratefully received by the Rainforest Foundation.
Why the Rainforest Foundation?
The power and control of the breath is everything in yoga, and it is only thanks to the Earth's production of oxygen that we are able to breathe and live. As such, it seems appropriate to honour and protect the natural world and the rainforests within it so that we can continue to benefit from the wonderful gifts it offers.
Every year, an area of rainforest the size of England and Wales is cut down, leaving local people homeless and driving animals and plants to extinction. The result of tropical deforestation also means that more CO2 emissions are released than all of the world's planes, train and cars put together. Crazy. Protecting the rainforest means protecting life.
The Rainforest Foundation campaigns internationally to protect the world's rainforests and their inhabitants, helping these forest communities to gain rights. They believe that by protecting the indigenous population, they will protect their home and in so doing, protect the rest of the world against the dangers of climate change. Please donate whatever you can, it all adds up in the end. If you can't afford to donate in money then donations of love and support are also gratefully received.
You are all wonderful people.
Peace and love.
Namaste.
PS. Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. That's a promise.
