We pioneer life-saving cancer research to help us beat cancer

Story

This year was my year - I was 50 - I had a place in the Great North Run and after not running much for a year after a disastrous London Marathon I was ready to go again.

The year started off with a damp squid when I had to have a op for a breast abscess in my chest wall which recurred in May but I booked a running coach Jill who I thought would at least be able be to get me round the 13.1 miles.

I also booked the Race for Life at Ilkley to give me a race to look forward to. All was going well and I was enjoying training which was a first! I had a letter from the hospital to go for a post op check-up and I went to the breast clinic.

There was quite a wait but I am never bothered as the nurses at the hospital are all so nice and when I was called in to see the doctor who gave me a check-up which seemed to be OK. At this time I asked whether I could have a mammogram since I was at that magical age and he said that since I was there that was an option.

What I and I didn't expect was the results to come, something showed on the mammogram so I had an ultrasound then a doctor came and did a biopsy. They said at this stage that it looked like I did have cancer and that it was in my lymph nodes.

On Tuesday I went to get the results and I have Grade 2 and on July 8th will be having an op to remove the cancer cells plus lymph nodes. So because I won't be able to race at Ilkley and because I have already got my number (800) and pack I will be doing my own race (with my Garmin) and posting on Facebook on Monday 6th July.If anyone wants to support then it would be great.
