Peripatetic Cycle Tour · 19 May 2009
Hello,
Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.
Peripatetic - employed in two or more offices and travelling from one to another - the definition's even more boring than the word itself. Mind you, it did give me the simple (why change the habit of a lifetime?) idea for our wee fundraising tour. Graham and I cover a region from Dumfries in the south through Ayrshire, Lanarkshire, Falkirk, and up to Stirling............and that's basically the tour. A 150 mile route over two days in June stopping off at a few of our offices along the way. Like I said, simple - except the furthest I'd cycled in the last two years was about 10 miles. Challenge is one word for it - total stupidity are two others. In any case, my training is well underway with Graham keeping me right - though he thinks nothing of nipping into work on his bike of a morning from Stirling to Hamilton, so another word that keeps springing into my mind is tandem! Anyway, here's some more serious information about the reason for our trip.
We work in the child welfare sector and our organisation has decided to raise money for Who Cares?Scotland to help two Scottish young people participate in an exciting collaboration with Community Action Nepal.
In November 2009 a team of young people and their workers are undertaking a challenging trek in the Himalayan Mountains of Nepal. As well as giving young people who have lived in care the opportunity of a lifetime, the aim is also to raise money for poor communities in Nepal and support the work of Who Cares? Scotland.
While each young person will be trying hard to raise their target amount of £1,980, any contribution you can make will give them great support in undertaking this challenge and unforgettable experience.
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor: Who Cares? Scotland gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
Thanks for any amount you're able to give!
Martin X Oh well, most of you will know that we made it....through the wind and rain for about half of the first day, as well as a couple of further soakings on day 2. But enough drowned rat tales and onto lots of large thank yous to everyone at the offices who made that extra bit of a welcome effort.
In particular to the D&G crew - the survival pack could not have been more appropriate given the weather conditions & our 'false start' involving a car key, a locked boot, and a very skilled RAC guy! Also we must mention the efforts of the folks at Hamilton House - see the pics on the website for evidence - in greeting, encouraging and feeding us as we entered the last leg of the trip. (We should say to all those at the other offices - your tea, biscuits and smiling faces...even when you were laughing at our outfits...were much appreciated).
One special mention goes to Dean who graciously provided our overnight accommodation on the Wednesday night. Most people clapping eyes on two sweaty, smelly, puffing(only me really - it was basically just a wee leisure cycle to the big G), lycra clad diddies pedalling up to their front door would have just pretended they weren't in. Thanks to your better half and you Mr Slater for the hospitality.
Finally, thanks to all who donated across Central West & the wider SCRA, plus to all of our family & friends who gave so generously
Graham & Martin xx
ps - Graham's already talking about "doing Scotland next time"...............which brings me back to thinking TANDEM!!
