OUR STORY

After a successful Charity Football Event and Great North Run last year we have decided to look for a fresh, new, exciting challenge.  This year myself and James Irvine are joining the Christie Team to take on the 3 Peaks Challenge in memory of my brother, Martin Pears, who sadly lost his life to cancer in November 2008.  Martin was aged just 23.

The event is to be held over 16th and 17th July 2010.  The challenge is to climb the 3 highest peaks in the UK within 24 hours (not including travelling time between peaks).  The challenge starts Friday afternoon in Glen Nevis Valley in Scotland, from which we attempt to climb the largest mountain in the UK, Ben Nevis, standing at 1,344m.  Overnight we try to get some sleep on the coach whilst travelling to the Lakes to climb Scafell Pike, the highest mountain in England, and then on to the highest mountain in Wales, Mount Snowdon.

More information on this challenge can be found at:  http://www.charitychallenge.com/expedition.html?id=1041

All money raised from the event will go to Martin Pears’ Fundraising Fund for the Young Oncology Unit (Y.O.U) at the Christie.    After being diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, Martin only spent a short time on the Y.O.U. before his sudden death and the care he and his relatives received was fantastic, so being able to give something back would be a great comfort to us all.

To be part of the Christie team we need to guarantee £1,000 sponsorship per person, which we feel could be difficult simply from sponsorship.  We are therefore looking to raise some of the money by completing a variety of other fundraising ideas.  Look out for 5aside football and rugby 7s tournaments we are hoping to organise.  Also, if anyone would like to help by completing a Football Card or a Name The Bear raffle at work please let me know and I'll send them out to you.
