Story
I've pretty much always been a private person, someone who doesn't talk about her emotions much but in the aid of a good cause here's my story...
2006...
As a child/teen everyone had a favourite superhero, character or someone they looked up to...
Mine has always been my mum but as we all know even Superman has a weakness.
Cancer was my mum's weakness.
In the form of a brain tumour.
Not only was it a weakness;
It was also a Thief...
First it stole her comfort leaving only pain;
Then it stole her agility...
Her capability...
Her hair...
Her future plans...
Her youth...
Her reproduction...
Her Degree (Mum was in her 2nd year of her Social Care degree when she was diagnosed with the first tumour)
This weakness took residence in her head.
Allowed her to know it had arrived through severe headaches and pain down her right arm.
I don't think we could have ever comprehended the impact it was about to have on all of our lives...
By the time Mum's cancer was found it had become quite vigorous.
But some how even after three operations and a long recovery process this wonder-woman still bounced back to being an amazing mother, best friend & wife to us.
They called her the miracle patient because she managed to evade everything that was meant to go wrong.
Weakened by radiotherapy.
Even with her reduced strength, she was everything.
Her strength was admiring & courageous her love was unconditional. Her outlook on life was inspirational. My best friend.
We thought we had won the fight, after 9 years of being clear after each scan you start to relax a little...
Earlier on this year a tumour was noticed on her scan under the location of where the first tumour was removed...
Her Consultant didn't want to take the risk of not acting fast, as it was growing rapidly and her surgery date was set for 8th april 2014.
The day our world came crashing down around us...
